About

Welcome to Faircomp — a website all about protecting your rights to fair compensation in the event of an accident.

Established by Canberra’s legal profession, this website has two aims:

  1. To protect the interests of all accident victims in the ACT; and
  2. To do so through an open debate based on facts and accurate information.

The ACT Government wants to change the laws covering compensation to people injured in the workplace and on the roads because of negligent acts of others, by amending the Workers Compensation Act 1951 and Road Transport (Third Party Insurance) Act 2008.

The ACT Law Society, the ACT Bar Association, and Australian Lawyers Alliance believes these proposed changes are unfair and unnecessary.

According to research based on NSW statistics, the Government’s proposals will cause an alarming 80 per cent reduction in the number of people able to go to court to claim compensation for pain and suffering.

Remember: You and your employer pay for policies that aim to protect you in the event of an accident.

Insurance policies that remove your right to go to court leave you exposed and without protection.

Common law — that is a decision by a court — is your protection in the event of a disagreement with your insurer.

To take away this protection is wrong because access to Common Law is a fundamental element of access to justice.

And we are not prepared to stand idly by and see it removed or watered down.

If we are going to have an open debate on this important matter of law, we want your views and opinions.

Faircomp is our way of encouraging you to take part and help us protect your rights.

Let’s make it fair and keep it fair!

Another bad decision by John Stanhopeless. When are you ever going to get it? What would happen if your wife/children had no right to compensation Mr Stanhopeless? Oh that’s right – you could afford whatever needed to be paid because you’re an overpaid politician. I do not support the government on this decision.
